Celebrating Other's Success

This past weekend I had the privilege of being in a room for a celebration of National Women’s day. I found myself surrounded by nine beautiful, powerful women who were seeking rest and connection in one another’s presence. We each went around the circle and shared about the ways we were living our purpose and seeking to make a difference in the world. As I stared into each one of these women’s eyes and felt the energy that was emanating from each of them, it struck me how profound it is to be with others who are unapologetic about their greatness, and how like a flame that catches on fire, our collective experience of showing up to our own lives, and saying yes to what our purpose is, creates more possibility for others to do the same.

I noted how different this experience is for me at 50 than it was at 30 or even 40. I remember being in the presence of successful strong women in the past and feeling a tinge of envy or comparison. When I witnessed someone who was doing something amazing that I wanted to do, something in me felt less-than, envious, and slightly competitive. The wisdom that comes with age is that now I stand in a room like this, and I want to keep fanning the flame of each woman’s awesomeness. If one of us can do something amazing like a podcast, a successful PR company or create a meaningful business, that means I can too. More of us can. It’s this beautiful experience of abundance, as opposed to a feeling of scarcity. I love this shift within me and naming it with other women who are having the same recognition. It opens up something inside that feels expansive and light contrasted with the old experience of contracted and heavy.

I hope as you’re reading this, you have found that shift within you as well, but if you haven’t, I hope this lands on you as an invitation to the possibility that there’s always more room at the table for creativity and success, whatever success may mean for you. To me it’s becoming who I came here to be.
